Under the terms of the first-look television deal, Ice Cube and Cube Vision COO Jeff Kwatinetz will develop and executive produce projects for various platforms across Paramount’s vast network. This includes broadcast, cable, and streaming services, offering a wider range of content for viewers.
The partnership kicks off with a currently untitled project in development at SHOWTIME Studios. This scripted series will delve into the often cutthroat world of Hollywood, specifically focusing on the experiences of Black creatives navigating the industry. The show promises an “explosive cast of characters” grappling with ambition, power, and the price of fame.
This expanded partnership isn’t entirely new territory for Ice Cube and Paramount. The two have collaborated on various projects in the past, including:
- The Big3 basketball league, which airs on CBS.
- VH1’s popular music show, Hip Hop Squares.
- Music-related ventures over the years.
- Ice Cube’s recent voice acting role in the upcoming film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, co-written by Seth Rogan.
“Ice Cube is a bona fide powerhouse,” said Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and CCO for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. She shared Cube’s lasting influence across music, film, television, and sports, adding, “It’s a privilege to build on our relationship with Cube Vision and continue to bring his trailblazing storytelling to audiences around the world.”
Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz shared excitement about the expanded partnership, stating, “This deal provides us with everything we need to bring amazing and authentic stories to television.” They highlighted their desire to collaborate with top-tier writers and industry talent.
Both parties seem passionate about building upon their past successes and bringing compelling content to viewers. This first-look deal is a sign of a promising step in that direction.
