Zaya Campbell is no stranger to the spotlight. She is the voice behind the twice-viral Nationwide Insurance jingle cover, performed in the style of a down-home southern quartet musician. Although Zaya was just playing around with her mom, her rendition captivated audiences with its soulful and unique interpretation, showcasing her impressive vocals.

According to its website, The Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant–celebrating its 30th anniversary–was founded by Lisa Ruffin in 1993. The pageant aims to empower young African American girls aged six to twelve with Confidence, Awareness, and Pride (CAP), preparing them to become future leaders. Through a blend of education and performance, participants are introduced to the arts, public speaking, etiquette, scientific experiments, and the future of technology. The LMAA’s curriculum includes a summer program of coaching, guest lectures, and demonstrations on African American heritage, communication skills, math, science, and the arts.

Throughout the summer, the girls receive extensive training in voice projection, poise, body movement, and memory techniques from award-winning choreographers and experienced instructors. This comprehensive preparation ensures that each participant shines on stage, celebrating their cultural heritage and potential.

Zaya’s journey to winning the title of Little Miss African American was marked by her determination, hard work, and the loving support of her family. Erica Campbell’s guidance and encouragement were pivotal in helping Zaya excel, creating a beautiful and inspiring moment of triumph. As Zaya steps into her new title, she embodies the promise of unlimited possibilities for little Black girls and the power of a mother’s unwavering belief in her child’s dreams.
