Last week, I Love Us had the pleasure of being on-site at the University of North Florida for a comedy event that had the whole campus buzzing. The one and only Kenan Thompson, who’s been making us laugh for 30 years—from All That to Saturday Night Live—took the stage for an evening full of humor and heart.

Backed by a $110,000 budget approved by UNF’s Student Government, the show wasn’t just about the jokes. Kenan shared the story of his life, from his early days as a young performer to becoming a comedy legend. Between the laughs and playful jabs at the audience, he dropped some real gems of advice for the students, reminding them to follow a path they genuinely love.
The event pulled in a solid crowd. The energy in Lazzara Performance Hall was electric as students filed in, vibing to throwback tunes from the early 2000s. The night kicked off with intros from the Student Government officers who made it all happen, setting the stage for what was to come.
Security was tight, with limited phone use during the show to keep things safe for Kenan. But that didn’t stop the fun—Kenan’s light-hearted banter with the Student Government and the audience kept everyone engaged, especially when students got up to move around.
The real highlight was hearing Kenan’s journey—how he went from a young kid with a dream to a household name in comedy. His stories came naturally, peppered with advice about the importance of finding joy in what you do.
It was an unforgettable night, and we were honored to capture it. Kenan Thompson’s career is proof that following your passion can lead to incredible things, and he left the UNF community not just laughing, but inspired.
