Hip hop has long been a part of Los Angeles. From the producers laying beats to engineers mixing tracks in studios, the people behind the music deserve more than applause—they deserve care. On Tuesday, June 24, MusiCares is showing up for them.
Humans of Hip Hop (H3), the wellness initiative by MusiCares, returns to Los Angeles with a one-day clinic offering free services to hip hop professionals—onstage and behind the boards. Held at the MusiCares/Recording Academy headquarters in Santa Monica, this event is for those who’ve given five years or more to the industry or have six or more commercial credits to their name. Whether you’re touring or toiling in post-production, you belong here.
And yes, it’s completely free.
What’s on Deck:
- A financial wellness workshop with celebrity financial expert and entertainment executive Dr. Lynn Richardson, who will be breaking down real money game tailored for music creatives.
- Vision and dental screenings—because seeing the future clearly and smiling through it shouldn’t cost you studio time.
- Custom ear molds for those protecting their craft and their hearing.
- Therapy and mental health check-ins, massage therapy, and physical therapy—because healing isn’t just physical, it’s holistic.
Why This Matters
Supported by Vivid Seats and Amazon Music, the H3 initiative is a nationwide movement dedicated to the health and humanity of hip hop’s workforce. Previous stops have included Atlanta, Detroit, Oakland, New York, Philly, and D.C., and the message is the same everywhere: support does exist.
Artists like Common, Lupe Fiasco, MC Lyte, Saweetie, David Banner, and Killer Mike have all lent their voices to the cause. Just as vital are the voices of the bassists, stage managers, background vocalists, lighting techs, and everyone else whose names don’t make the flyer but whose fingerprints are on the culture.
