Beyoncé finally added an Emmy to her collection this year, joining a long list of Grammys. With one leg of the EGOT down (Emmy), the question shifts from if she can get there, to how she might win the Oscar and Tony.
Here are a few paths that could make Beyoncé an EGOT.
The Oscar Path: Through Her Music, Not Just Movies
Beyoncé already has flirted with Oscar nominations. Her song “Be Alive,” co-written with Dixson for King Richard, was nominated for Best Original Song in 2022. This shows she can already win nods when her music serves the film.
To move from nominated to winning, consider:
- Writing a song for a major biopic or historical film. Something that ties deeply into Black history or identity, or a story previously untold. A track that’s both anthem and emotional core could win Best Original Song or Best Original Score.
- Executive producing or curating a documentary’s music. Documentaries focused on Black culture are increasingly seen by the Academy.
- Producing a short film or a visual album. If she ties original music into a short film that submits for Best Documentary Short or Best Original Song, that might open doors.
“Be Alive” shows she already can hit an Oscar nomination. It’s just about choosing projects that align with that lane.
The Tony Path: Broadway Dreams & Musical Legacies
Tony Awards are about theater and live performance. Beyoncé has the musical catalog, visual flair, storytelling sensibility, and the fanbase. There are several projects she could launch that would eat Broadway alive.
- A Destiny’s Child Musical/Jukebox Show. Chart the origin, rise, challenges, triumphs. Think Dreamgirls but set in Houston, with Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle’s story or inspired version.
- A Beyoncé Solo Eras Musical. Stage her solo-career as story, pairing eras (Dangerously in Love, Beyoncé, Lemonade, Renaissance) with narrative threads—power, motherhood, reinvention.
- Original Concept Show with Her Music or Produced by Her. Something like Black Is King or Lemonade meets theater. A production that leans into culture, folklore, dancers, visuals, as opposed to a straight musical format.
Support for this is already there: Michelle Williams said she wants to see Beyoncé on Broadway, believing she (and Destiny’s Child) has Broadway potential. Also, audiences have shown hunger for staging pop stars’ stories as musicals.
Final Word
Beyoncé already has the Grammy mountains, now an Emmy — but her EGOT is not a fantasy. It’s a roadmap she’s already traveling. If she picks the right projects—Oscar-worthy music deeply tied to storytelling, Broadway shows grounded in her legacy—it’s just a matter of time before she earns that Oscar and Tony.
