The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 487 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures. This year, among the esteemed invitees are notable Black actors Erika Alexander and Obba Babatunde, whose impressive careers have left an amazing mark on the film industry.
Erika Alexander, celebrated for her roles in American Fiction and 30 Years to Life, has been a powerful presence on screen, bringing depth and authenticity to her characters. Her performances have resonated with audiences, showcasing her versatility and commitment to her craft.
Obba Babatunde, known for his roles in City of Lies and The Manchurian Candidate is another distinguished actor recognized by the Academy this year. Babatunde’s extensive career spans decades, during which he has consistently delivered compelling performances that captivate audiences.
“We are thrilled to welcome this year’s class of new members to the Academy,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang. “These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community.”
Additional notable Black performers to be invited include Danielle Brooks, known for The Color Purple and Clemency, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, recognized for her roles in The Holdovers and Dolemite Is My Name.
