Last night, the BET Awards 2024 took over the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and it was a night to remember! One of the biggest highlights was the tribute to Usher, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The tribute started with a beautiful performance of Usher’s hit “U Don’t Have to Call” by Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) and Keke Palmer.
Childish Gambino kicked things off with a soulful acoustic version of the song, setting a mellow vibe. Then, Keke Palmer joined him on stage, bringing the tempo up and adding her powerful energy. It was a perfect blend of styles, and the crowd loved it.
Gambino was the only male singer in the tribute, which featured a lineup of amazing female performers like Teyana Taylor, Victoria Monét, Chlöe Bailey, Big Latto, and Coco Jones. Each of these talented women brought their own unique flair, making the tribute to Usher even more special.
Hosted by the fabulous Taraji P. Henson, the night was filled with many other stellar performances and surprises (like Shaboozey bringing J-Kwon onstage for a mash-up of “A Bar Song” and “Tipsy”). Presenters like Andra Day, Colman Domingo, DC Young Fly, Devale Ellis, Jay Ellis, Jessica Betts, Ms. Pat, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Saucy Santana also brought their personalities to the event. The night ended with an onstage reunion of Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean–following a duet with Hill and her son, YG Marley.
