In an exciting development, Influence Media has announced the launch of SLANG, a new independent front-line label led by industry veteran, Rene McLean. As a Partner & Founding Advisor at Influence Media Partners, McLean brings years of experience and a visionary approach to this culture and technology-forward music company.
Rene McLean’s career in the music industry spans decades, marked by his role in developing some of the most culturally influential artists of our time. From Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes to Eminem and Pharrell Williams, McLean’s skill for identifying and nurturing talent is well-documented. His work has not only shaped the careers of individual artists but also left an impact on the industry as a whole.
Before joining Influence Media, McLean founded RPM GRP, where he collaborated with top talent and secured partnerships with Fortune 50 companies, including Pepsi, LVMH, and Apple Music. He also established the highly influential Mixshow Power Summit conference, which ran for ten years.
In his role at Influence Media Partners, McLean has overseen major catalog acquisition deals for prominent artists such as Future, Tyler Johnson, and Tainy. His expertise and strategic vision have been integral in positioning Influence Media as a force in the music rights and entertainment space.
Under McLean’s leadership, SLANG is set to become a place for artists seeking a supportive and innovative environment to grow their careers. “I’m proud to lead SLANG’s efforts to partner with quality artists and invest in their growth, regardless of genre or where they are in their respective careers,” McLean said. “In a quickly changing music industry, SLANG artists will be surrounded by a team of like-minded strategists who will stop at nothing to further their trajectory and help them meet their goals. Our commitment to culture comes first, and we consider our SLANG roster family.”
The label’s roster features four-time GRAMMY and Academy Award-winning multi-hyphenate Will Smith, a trailblazer in entertainment and one of the few Black entertainers to be nominated for all four major entertainment awards in the United States. Smith’s presence on the roster drives home SLANG’s dedication to partnering with artists who have a significant cultural impact.

Joining Smith is GRAMMY-winning and multi-platinum producer Camper, known for his chart-topping hits with artists like Jay-Z, Drake, Mary J. Blige, and H.E.R. Another heavyweight on the roster is GRAMMY-winning producer 30 Roc, celebrated for his work on Roddy Rich’s diamond-certified hit “The Box” and other multi-platinum tracks.
Beyond its impressive roster of established stars, SLANG is also committed to nurturing emerging talent. The label’s lineup includes rising artists like rapper/singer Leaf, Flatbush rap duo The Underachievers, Atlanta-based rapper/storyteller Truththebull, emerging artist, songwriter, and producer Isaia Huron, and underground Atlanta rapper RY XP. McLean’s track record in talent development means these artists will receive the support and guidance needed to reach their full potential.
Backed by BlackRock and Warner Music Group, Influence Media is committed to creating fair, artist-first offerings around music rights and beyond. The company’s latest fund has secured over 30 investments across music rights, working with a diverse array of artists, songwriters, and creative executives.
The launch of SLANG under Rene McLean’s leadership marks a new chapter in the company’s mission to disrupt the current ecosystem and champion the next generation of musical talent.
