Last night was nothing short of stellar as the I Love Us team caught Missy Elliott’s groundbreaking headline tour, OUT OF THIS WORLD — The Missy Elliott Experience, at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, FL. This tour is Missy Elliott’s first-ever headline tour, and it was an absolute celebration of her legendary contributions to music and culture. With an all-star lineup featuring Hip Hop titan Busta Rhymes, multi-platinum queen Ciara, and mega-producer Timbaland, the night was filled with unforgettable performances and moments that left us all in awe.

Ciara: A True Representation of Black Millennial Tenacity

Ciara’s performance was a highlight that resonated deeply with me. Watching her on stage, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and pride. From her early hits like “Goodies” to the empowering “Level Up,” Ciara has been a soundtrack to many of our lives. As a Black millennial woman myself, seeing Ciara represent us so powerfully was a reminder of the strength and beauty we hold at every stage of our journey. Her performance was a celebration of self-love and growth.

Busta Rhymes and his longtime friend and collaborator, Spliff Star, were nothing short of electrifying. I love that whenever you see Busta, you see Spliff. Despite being in their early 50s, their stamina and stage presence were awe-inspiring. The chemistry between Busta and Spliff Star, built over decades of friendship, was evident in every moment of their performance. Busta’s boundless energy and Spliff Star’s dynamic contributions created a show that was both nostalgic and exhilarating.

One of the standout moments was when Busta Rhymes shared his gratitude with the crowd, saying, “The fact that you’re here, feels like a tremendous gift to us. I do hope that we are at least a millionth of a fraction of a gift to y’all!” When Busta rapped his classic lines from A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario,” the audience’s excitement was palpable, a nod to the timeless appeal of classic hip-hop.

Missy Elliott: A Dazzling Extravaganza

Missy Elliott’s performance was truly out of this world. From the moment she took the stage, it was clear that this was going to be a show unlike any other. The vibrant, futuristic set design and her imaginative costumes turned the arena into a magical space. Her high-energy performance, combined with her incredible team of dancers blending various dance styles, all showcased Missy’s signature creative genius.

A memorable highlight was when Missy brought Timbaland on stage for a performance of “Up Jumps Da Boogie,” which included a subtle tribute to the late Aaliyah and Magoo. Missy surprised everyone by bringing out local legend, Trina. Although I would have loved to see Trina during the “One Minute Man” segment, her performance of “Pull Over” was a nice addition. The night ended with Missy and Ciara reuniting on stage for an epic rendition of “Lose Control,” capping off a night of unstoppable energy and unforgettable moments.
