The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture announced the opening of its latest exhibit, TITAN: The Legacy of Reginald F. Lewis. This monumental display, honoring the life and achievements of the museum‘s namesake, is now open to the public and will remain on view through April 2026.

Presented by Grain Management and IMB Partners, with sponsorship from Neutron Engineering and support from Daniel L. Black, the exhibit’s debut was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 7, 2025. The following day, the museum welcomed approximately 1,400 visitors for a free Community Day in celebration of the exhibit’s launch.

A Tribute to a Trailblazer

TITAN offers a compelling look into the life and legacy of Reginald F. Lewis, the Baltimore-born business pioneer who became the first African American to lead a billion-dollar company. Raised in a working-class family, Lewis rose to become the richest Black man in America during the 1980s, breaking racial and economic barriers before his untimely passing in 1993 from brain cancer.

The exhibit features an array of artifacts, multimedia presentations, and personal stories that shed light on Lewis’s journey — from his early years in Baltimore to his groundbreaking billion-dollar deal and lasting influence on economic empowerment for Black entrepreneurs.

Milestone Celebration for the Museum

TITAN carries special significance as the museum’s 100th exhibition, a milestone that coincides with the institution’s 20th anniversary celebration. Throughout the year, the museum will host a series of programs, events, and community engagements designed to further highlight Lewis’s impact and the broader history of Black entrepreneurship.

“As we celebrate our 20th anniversary and unveil our 100th exhibition, this moment is especially meaningful,” said Terri Lee Freeman, President of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. “Reginald F. Lewis was a trailblazer, maverick, and titan who changed the landscape for Black entrepreneurs. This exhibit is a testament to his vision, determination, and hard work.”
