If you close your eyes and press play on The Paradox, you might swear you’re back in 2006—American Eagle polos, mini skirts, and Birkenstock clogs included.
Meet The Paradox
Formed in July 2024, The Paradox is an all-Black pop-punk band comprising Eric Dangerfield (vocals/guitar), Donald (bass), Xelan (lead guitar/vocals), and PC3 (drums). According to Spotify, their debut video went viral, amassing over 100,000 followers within weeks. Their latest single, “Do Me Like That,” released in April 2025, garnered over 20 million views online before its official release.
Redefining Representation in Rock
The Paradox is part of a burgeoning collective of Black artists reshaping the rock and alternative music scenes. Artists like Willow Smith, with her genre-blending ventures, and Infinity Song, known for their harmonious fusion of styles, are challenging the status quo and reclaiming spaces that have historically marginalized Black voices.
Honoring the Roots of Rock
Rock music’s lineage is deeply entwined with Black artistry. Pioneers like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard laid the foundational rhythms and rebellious spirit that define the genre. Over time, however, the industry has often obscured these origins. The Paradox, along with contemporaries, is bringing these contributions back into the spotlight, ensuring that the narrative of rock music includes its true architects.
The Future Is Now
With upcoming performances alongside Games We Play and a spot on the Vans Warped Tour, The Paradox is poised to leave a mark on 2025 and beyond.
