It’s hard to believe, but I Love Us is about to celebrate its first birthday. One year of showing up for the culture. One year of telling the stories that don’t always make headlines—but absolutely shape our legacy. One year of creating a space where Black storytelling feels like home.

Now, we’re asking for your help as we move into year two—with even more vision, more momentum, and more reasons to keep going.

Watch the video below to hear directly from our co-founder and editor, Thiy Parks:

Why We’re Raising Funds

We’ve made it this far through the love and support of readers, family, friends, and folks who believe in the power of Black storytelling. We haven’t had corporate backing. No major funding. Just a dream, some deadlines, and a lot of late nights.

Now we’re in a familiar spot for many indie publications: we need more readers to tap into consistent revenue streams, but we need more funding to reach those readers. It’s a Catch-22 we’re ready to break through—with your help.

This is our one-year glow up. A chance to do more. Reach further. Make sure the stories we’re telling continue to inspire, affirm, and reflect us.

What We’ve Done So Far:

In our first year, I Love Us has featured award-winning and emerging Black artists who are shaping culture right now. We’ve published exclusive interviews, built relationships with Black Public Media and MusiCares, and created space for the kind of stories that don’t just document and define our moments.

From musicians like Tank Ball and Devin Morrison, to cultural voices like Chef BJ Dennis, we’ve covered the names you know and the ones you’re about to know.
